12 Volt / 5 Ampere Regulated Power Supply Based on LM338 - Electronic Circuit Schematic Diagram

Description

Electronic circuit like in Figure 1 above is 12 Volt / 5 Ampere Regulated Power Supply Based on LM338 circuit. Base in this circuit is Lm338 IC that according sheet data of this IC that LM138/LM238/LM338 are adjustable 3-terminal positive voltage regulators capable of supplying in excess of 5A over a 1.2V to 32V output range. They are exceptionally easy to use and require only 2 resistors to set the output voltage. Careful circuit design has resulted in outstanding load and line regulation comparable to many commercial power supplies. The LM138 family is supplied in a standard 3-lead transistor package.

The LM338 IC has some features as follow:
  • GUARANTEED 7A PEAK OUTPUT CURRENT
  • GUARANTEED 5A OUTPUT CURRENT
  • ADJUSTABLE OUTPUT DOWN TO 1.2V
  • LINE REGULATION TYPICALLY 0.005% /V
  • LOAD REGULATION TYPICALLY 0.1%
  • GUARANTEED THERMAL REGULATION
  • CURRENT LIMIT CONSTANT WITH TEMPERATURE
  • STANDARD 3-LEAD TRANSISTOR PACKAGE
Using this IC LM338, and electronic circuit like in Figure 1 above firstly can convert AC to DC that come from transformer output and rectified using diode and regulated using LM338 IC to get 12 volt with 5 ampere output. For more application, you can realize this circuit in PCB layout.
